More information about Rondeur Appassimento - La Grange
The Rondeur Appassimento from La Grange in the Languedoc region comes into the glass with a dark ruby red color and brick-red reflections. It immediately enchants with intense aromas of blackcurrants, juicy raisins, rum cherries and other raisined, dried or pickled fruits. Garrigue aromas of rosemary, thyme and myrrh as well as mineral and stony notes round off the nose of the Rondeur Appassimento perfectly.
On the palate, the La Grange Appassimento Rondeur starts with fine spice, delicate chocolate nuances and subtle sweetness. Plums, raspberries and blueberries come to mind, all enveloped in herbaceous garrigue spice. Everything is enveloped by full-bodied but soft tannins and a pleasantly harmonious, refreshing acidity. The finish has a wonderful, almost Amarone-like complexity that allows the Rondeur to linger for a long time.
Vinification of the La Grange Rondeur Appassimento
La Grange uses grapes from the classic Languedoc grape varieties Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre for its Rondeur. This legendary combination, also known as GSM for short, produces wonderfully complex, multi-layered aromas. So why not make an Appassimento out of it, La Grange oenologist Thomas Raynaud probably thought. The process, in which the grapes are dried to obtain more concentrated aromas, is absolutely standard in Veneto, so why not in the Languedoc? Thought - done! In the best La Grange vineyards, the grapes were left hanging on the vine until they began to dry out. After harvesting by hand and careful selection, fermentation followed. The cuvée was then assembled from the individual batches and placed in barrique barrels for ageing.
With Rondeur - the sundial - La Grange not only pays tribute to the sun, the most important "partner" of the vine, but also depicts a grape on the label, as if in cross-section. The sun is doubly important for the Rondeur Appassimento, as it helps the grapes to grow and also ensures that they dry out at the end and concentrate their aromas.
