Phoenicians, Romans, missionaries and migrants - they all had wine in their luggage. Wild vines existed millions of years ago, proven viticulture for almost 6,000 years. Today, wine is at home all over the world. Between Australia and America, Europe and Asia, North and South - wine countries can be found everywhere. And every wine country has its own character.

The best wine countries

Dust-dry wastelands, lush green ranges of hills and stony slopes rising from river valleys - the diversity of terroirs in wine-producing countries accounts for much of the diversity of wine. It's no wonder, then, that the various countries present themselves with strengths that are typical of the country. And every wine connoisseur has his or her individual preferences, which are better served by one country than another. And to ensure that everyone can enjoy wine to their own taste, we at VINELLO have brought together a wide variety of wines from the world's best wine countries. Browse through our wine shop or use the filters on the left to find your perfect wine, one by one.

Wine producing countries in Europe

France - a votre santé

When you think of wine, you think of God in France. Hardly any other country has so much renown across all wine regions. Champagne, Bordeaux, Château here Châteauneuf du Pape there. Whether French red wine, white wine, rosé or sparkling wine - you will find wine superlatives in France in abundance.

Italy - salute

La dolce vita, unrestrained joie de vivre and spirited character heads can be experienced with Italian top wines. Spoiled by the sun and unique by tradition. Whether special vinifications à la Ripasso, Appassimento, Amarone or famous specialities such as Barolo, Franciacorta and Brunello - Italian wine simply belongs to absolute pleasure.

Germany - to your health

What the Romans once brought to Germany has been perfected by the local winegrowers. When it comes to white wine, hardly any country can match the noble and fine wines from Germany's 13 wine regions. And with cheeky, fruity red wines, there are one or two surprises from one of the northernmost wine countries in the world.

Spain - salud

When it comes to dust-dry wines from Europe, Spain is always a good choice. The red wines bursting with fruit and power are not only fun for the palate. No less fruit-intensive are the Cava sparkling wines and white wines that flourish in the bodegas of Spain's wine country.

Austria - Cheers

Things are looking up in the Alpine republic of Austria. After a few difficult years the Austrian wine developed quite excellently. Surrounded by castles and mountains, the winegrowers create white wines with a strong character that are second to none. Autochthonous grape varieties and a fun-loving self-image resonate in the mineral wines at all times.

Portugal - saúde

The relatively small wine country Portugal can come up with the probably largest variety of wine. Whether Vinho Verde, fortified wines or outstanding red and white wines - the great seafaring nation, with thick cork oaks and hardly known grape varieties, opens up the great wine world to you in one nation.

Switzerland - Pröschtli

For all those who don't know the wine-growing country of Switzerland yet: this is where the famous Rhône Valley starts. With the highest vineyard area in Europe and the wines Dôle and Fendant, which are famous beyond the Valais, there is a lot to experience and hike in SChweiz.

Hungary -javára

The fertile expanses of Hungary culminate in the Tokaj wine region. Here wine has been cultivated for centuries and has hardly changed in the form of the famous Tokaj sweet wine. With the wine country Hungary one goes into select company.

Georgia - Gagimardschos

According to some experts, the cradle of cultivated viticulture lies in Georgia - at least traces dating back to around 6,000 BC have been found here. Traditional cultivation methods have survived to this day, such as maturing in underground clay amphorae. What is new, however, are the investments which flowed into Georgian viticulture, so that the wine country Georgia is as good as never before.

Wine-growing countries in South and North America

Argentina - salud

Relatively young and yet at the top of the wine world, Argentina is a flagship of South America. Imported vines grow here up to 3,000 meters and present an unimagined potential. Because what produced decent wines in the old world, thrives in the wine country Argentina in never seen heights, or how else could one describe the development of the Malbec.

Chile -salud

Ever since Spanish missionaries and conquistadors set foot in Chile, viticulture in Chile has been on an uphill climb - no wonder given the mighty Andes. Sophisticated water systems, hot summers and fresh wind harmonize in Chile to a unique terroir that is able to reveal all facets of the wines.

USA - cheers

The United States is quite big - surely there is one or the other spot that promises first-class wines. Of course; California, Washington State and Oregon are pushing forward from the new world into the wine elite - with all the good grape varieties that have made their way across the pond.

Wine producing countries in Oceania

Australia - cheers

A few hundred years ago, when ships laden with migrants and vines moored on the shores of Australia, none of them would have dared to dream what Australian wine would achieve. A natural self-image and character of its own that powerfully distinguishes wine country from the old world.

New Zealand - kia ora

The wine country of New Zealand immediately evokes exotic notions and images of wild nature. You can find out what that tastes like with the wine of New Zealand. Known for sparkling whites and juicy reds, this far-flung wine country shines on the international stage, allowing kiwi wine to grow and thrive.

Wine producing countries in Africa

South Africa - healthy

Wild, natural and relaxed at the same time is the style of the wine country South Africa. For 350 years now, winegrowers from the Cape to the hinterland have been pressing top wines that reflect South Africa's terroir and celebrate pleasure with a touch of lightness.

The truly exotic wine countries of the world

Many places are experimenting with grape varieties, either to identify future areas for cultivation or for winegrowers who want to spend their retirement with vines. This results in vineyards that are located in some "exotic" countries. England, Sweden, Canada are mentioned here. However, with the climate change in the luggage, these vineyards could establish themselves sometime.
